Leaving Home for School: A Life Stage Change 09/21/2004
As children become adults and leave home to attend college, advertisers should take advantage of advertising to this ideal market segment. Individuals of college age make some of the most important decisions of their lives, and are becoming brand loyal as they make new life stage changes. The demographics of college students are almost evenly split by gender – 56% female and 44% male. 62% of the college students are in their late teens or early 20’s. The college market is also multi-cultural with 69% of students being Caucasian, 14% are African-American and 9% are Hispanic. Advertisers can reap the rewards of targeting these diverse, model consumers during the four years that will influence college students’ lives into the future. (Source: Dept. of Education)
