Monroe Free Press

The Monroe Free Press began in 1969. It was an information instrument of the Civil Rights Movement in progress in the Monroe Louisiana area. It was originally named "The Rapping Black" and was sold on the campus of Northeast Louisiana University for 5 cents. Its publisher was Roosevelt Wright, Jr., an NLU student and local civil rights activist.Since 1969 the publication has served as an advocate for minorities, working people, and women's issues.
