The Sunday newspaper delivers a premium audience of educated, middle- to upper-income, predominantly single family households, and the comics are one of its most popular features. 85% of adults say the comics contribute to their enjoyment of the Sunday paper (source: Customer Focus 2000). Advertisers can now market their message on a premium position in the Comics section of Sunday papers on a "gatefold." A gatefold is an additional page, perforated along the spine, and folded over onto part of the Sunday Comics' front cover. It is printed in four-color, and can accommodate a full page advertisement or two half page advertisements that have been married together. The "Newspaper Gatefold Program" runs weekly in over 350 Sunday newspapers, which covers more than 60% of the largest Sunday papers in nearly all of the top 30 markets.
