Advertising in utility statements is an easy way for marketers to test the billing statement channel. Single-sheet and multi-panel inserts are accepted to ride along with outgoing billing invoices, which are mailed via First Class directly to customers. Placing your message on a bangtail, which is an additional flap on the remittance envelope, is another advertising option in some statements. With a large monthly circulation, advertisers can take advantage of the benefits of a name list mailing without the high costs. Space in billing statements is usually limited to two or three inserts per mailing, resulting in less clutter. Advertisers can also capitalize on the high opening rate of billing statements, and implied endorsement of the issuer. Since utility statements are geographically-specific programs, advertisers are able to isolate regions and markets.
