The LA Times offers advertisers the opportunity to reach the newspaper's subscribers at home. Advertiser's pre-printed inserts ride along with invoices that are either mailed or delivered to newspaper subscribers throughout the month. By reaching consumers in their homes, and with the implied endorsement of an important bill, advertisers are insured a high opening rate. Los Angeles Times subscriber bill statements are mailed in 13, 4-week periods throughout the year, reaching approximately 265,000 homes and businesses each month. On average, more than 13,250 statements are mailed each weekday reaching half of the total subscribers in a 20-day period. A 'full run' requires the purchase of insert space in two consecutive periods with 600,000 total inserts being mailed.
